The City of Monroe is the county seat of Green County, WI with a population of approximately 10,660 people. The Police Department has 26 sworn officers with a maximum on duty per shift of 4 officers. The Police Department emphasizes community oriented policing and proactive policing. The large majority of the City of Monroe residents are supportive of their Police Officers. The shift rotation allows for 8.25 hours/one shift of training for 10 out of the 12 months per year. This is to ensure officers receive quality training and remain proficient in their skills and abilities.

Responsibilities:
***Lateral Transfer Only Recruitment*** The Monroe Police Department is currently accepting applications for a current vacancy and to also establish an eligibility list for future planned vacancies. We are currently accepting Lateral Transfer's only at this time, depending on success we will open to all applicants in the fall. The Police Officer position responsibilities include, enforcing laws and ordinances/ preventive patrol by vehicle/ bike or foot/responding to calls for service/ assisting all persons with their needs. Monroe officers take complaints/ answer questions/ resolve disputes and protect public safety. Our officers receive considerable training and obtain experience in special tactics/ special events and community policing. Specialty assignments include SRO, K9 Unit, Joint Tactical Response Team, Joint Crisis Negotiations Team, and Drug Enforcement Inspector.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
Lateral Transfer of prior non-correctional law enforcement experience in which they had powers to arrest may be placed at the following salary and vacation steps at the City's Discretion: 1-2 Years of Experience: Starting Salary $35.14 - $35.70/hr with corresponding vacation. 2-5 Years of Experience: Starting Salary $35.70 - $36.76/hr with corresponding vacation. 5+ Years of Experience: Starting Salary $36.76/hr with corresponding vacation. - Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
