Police Sergeant

The Police Sergeant position is the first-line supervisor of the Patrol Unit. This role is responsible for scheduling logistics and resources to ensure the protection of life and property, the preservation of peace and good order, and the provision of emergency aid to the institutional community. The Sergeant provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to unit staff while fostering accountability and professional development.

The position exercises supervisory authority over at least 2.0 FTE or equivalent employees, including responsibilities such as hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and approving hours worked. The Sergeant engages in problem solving, threat assessment and mitigation, and conflict resolution for a wide range of issues and incidents involving citizens, groups, campus entities, government agencies, businesses, leaders, and others. Additionally, the Sergeant develops and communicates directives to staff and monitors compliance with rules and regulations.
