Position Responsibilities

The position of Police Chief is a fulltime, exempt department head of the City of Menasha. This position is responsible for various administrative functions including, but not limited to, the planning, assigning, directing and supervision of personnel. The Police Chief is a representative of the City of Menasha and the State of Wisconsin and as such, is governed by not only legal but moral standards of the highest nature. The position requires a philosophy of dedication to the public service for the common good of all citizens. The Police Chief shall be responsible for managing and directing the activities of the police department, including ensuring that laws and ordinances are enforced, and that measures are implemented to prevent crimes and protect lives and property.

  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • Previous experience
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • Supervisory/Management Experience
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
Other Qualifications
  • Ten (10) years of law enforcement experience including at least five (5) years of supervisory experience.
  • Advanced specialized training in management or command; i.e., Northwestern , Southern Police Institute University of Louisville's Command Officer's Development Course, Wisconsin Command College or the F.B.I.'s National Academy.
