Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

Preventative patrol, traffic enforcement, emergency and non-emergency calls for service, and investigations containing criminal matters. The department is a comprehensive, 24-hour police agency that embraces community-oriented policing and neighborhood problem-solving. Specialized roles within the department include, but are not limited to, the K9 unit, drone program, bike patrol (including eBikes), firearms instructor, evidence technician, detective, emergency vehicle operations instructor, defense and arrest tactics instructor, field training officer, community service officer, and school resource officer.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

We offer an accelerated hiring process for experienced officers! Our competitive salary and benefits package includes flexibility for the Chief to assign a starting step based on the officer's prior experience: one (1) year, three (3) years, five (5) years, or seven (7) years of seniority. Qualified lateral transfers may also receive up to two weeks of sick leave, depending on their years of experience.

Additional Education Information
A minimum of 20 fully accredited college credits is required in order to be considered. Additionally, candidates must complete 60 fully accredited college credits within five years of hire.

  • IMPORTANT DATES TO NOTE: Assessment Day: October 15, 2025* *Assessment Day will be held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, unless there is a greater number of qualified applicants that requires two assessment days, in which case the second day will be 10/16
  • Candidates must successfully complete assessment day (two hour time committment on above date) to be considered further.
  • Police and Fire Commission (PFC) Interviews: October 30, 2025; Interviews will be in the evening and will be scheduled individually with each candidate. Candidates must successfully complete this interview and be certified by the PFC to advance.
  • Anticipated Hire Date: December 29, 2025 or January 5, 2026. This anticipated hire date is for candidates who have not yet been certified.
  • One to two weeks of orientation training would begin on December 29 or January 5, followed by a paid sponsorship for the Police Academy, which begins January 12, 2026. Candidates who are already certified LE officers may begin employment sooner.
