Position Responsibilities

The duties of a patrol officer are to promote public safety and to enhance the quality of life in our community through innovative policing and community partnerships. The patrol officer must be able to perform these duties with limited immediate supervision while working as a part of a team with other employees and the community. The patrol officer is required to understand and be able to apply department policies, procedures, and job methods related to work assignments. The patrol officer must have a working knowledge of federal laws, state statutes and local ordinances.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Employees who have previous full-time certified sworn law enforcement experience within the past 12 months will be placed at the pay step reflecting their credited years of prior certified experience. Additionally, they are eligible for vacation accruals in the same manner and will be advanced 96 hours of sick leave upon hire.

  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification

  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
