Position Responsibilities

The sergeant is a working, first level uniformed supervisor. The sergeant works a 5/2-5/3 rotation. The sergeant is responsible for calls for service, patrol, traffic enforcement, investigations, and other duties as assigned. The sergeant is supervised by the Chief of Police. Primary responsibilities include: 1. Direct supervision over 2nd and 3rd shift patrol officers. 2. Assist the Chief of Police with planning and policy implementation. 3. Conduct performance evaluations and improvement plans for staff. 4. Respond to public inquiries and complaints regarding police practices and actions; insures that proper follow up promptly occurs. 5. Assist the Accreditation Manager to meet compliance with WILEAG accreditations standards. 6. Work with department administration in investigation of citizen complaints or internal affairs investigations. 7. Responsible for the creation and maintenance of the patrol officer schedule. 8.   • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • Previous experience
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
