Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

Police Officers are responsible for performing a wide range of law enforcement and public safety duties, including:

- Conducting routine patrol and responding to calls for service and emergency situations.

- Enforcing state criminal and traffic laws, as well as local ordinances.

- Conducting criminal and traffic investigations, interviewing involved parties, gathering evidence, and completing follow-up investigations.

- Preparing clear, accurate, and thorough reports and maintaining proper documentation of incidents, investigations, arrests, and other law enforcement activities.

- Protecting life and property, maintaining public peace, and taking appropriate enforcement action when necessary.

- Responding to and investigating traffic crashes and assisting with traffic control and roadway safety.

- Making arrests, issuing citations, and preparing cases for referral to prosecutors.

- Providing testimony in municipal, state, and other court proceedings as required.

- Using problem-solving techniques to identify and address public safety and quality-of-life concerns.

- Working collaboratively with community members, businesses, schools, and other agencies to address community needs and build positive relationships.

- Performing other law enforcement and public safety duties as assigned.

  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position
  • Ability to possess a firearm
  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
Other Qualifications
  • High school or equivalent (Required)
  • Must be eligible in 2027 for certification by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board.

60 college credits / Associate's degree
Additional Education Information
Must be eligible for certification by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB) in 2027 through completion of a Wisconsin law enforcement recruit academy, current enrollment or formal acceptance into an academy, or eligibility for LESB reciprocity.
