Responsibilities:
This position supervises, organizes and trains Jailers and Jail staff, maintains the smooth operation of the Jail and related functions, reports to the Jail Lieutenant on a regular basis with problems and concerns. Directly supervises assigned shift when Sergeant is off and backs up Sergeant. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training employees, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. Duties also include maintaining safety, security and discipline in the Jail, intervening to stop disturbances, conducting searches and inspections, surveillance of all inmates, taking custody of and releasing inmates, and preparing reports and other paperwork. Applicants must be available to work a rotating 12-hour schedule, which includes nights, weekends, and holidays. This schedule allows for every other Friday-Saturday-Sunday off.

- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously

- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good verbal and written communication skills

Education Requirements:
• Associate’s Degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school or 6 months to 1-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Once hired, must be capable of completing LESB Jailer certification and maintain appropriate 24-hour recertification requirements.
• Once hired, may be required to attend a supervisory training course
