Our officers perform a variety of tasks including responding to emergent and non-emergent calls for service, criminal and non-criminal investigations, proactive crime prevention, traffic enforcement, and patrolling UW-Whitewater’s 400+ acres through a variety of methods. Our department offers excellent flexibility in scheduling due to working 10 hour shifts (4 on 3 off) with generally every other weekend off. Specialty positions include, but aren’t limited to Explosive Detection K-9 handler, Narcotics/Patrol K-9 Officer, Detective, Residence Hall Officer, Court Officer, Peer Support Team, Drone Operator, Bike patrol, Mobile Field Force (Riot Team), Gang Task Force Officer, Drug Unit liaison, Field Training Officers, Dignitary Protection, Designated Marksman, Law Enforcement instructors including Firearms, DAAT/POSC, EVOC, Vehicle Contacts, Professional Communications, and many more. We are an agency that values a strong work life balance, including the ability to work out on duty for 45 minutes, receive up to up to 216 hours of vacation, 36 hours personal Holiday, 9 paid legal holidays, and 130 hours of sick leave per year. Upon retirement, officers remaining unused sick leave is multiplied by their final wage and placed into a Health Saving Account (HSA) to pay for any healthcare needs in retirement. Responsibilities:
UW-Whitewater Police are committed to protecting the lives, property, and rights of all residents, through proactive policing, community engagement, and strong partnerships. Patrol officer responsibilities include but aren’t limited to; responding to calls for service, conducting criminal investigations, enforcing state and UWS18 violations; enforcement and monitoring of traffic laws. Upon successful completion of probationary period, officers are eligible for specialty positions, including K-9 Handler, Detective, Riot/Mobile Field Force Team, Drone Operator, RHO (Residence Hall Officer), Evidence Technician, Bike Patrol, Peer Support team, SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) member, Designated Marksman Program, Drug Unit Task Force Officer, Field Training Officer, court officer, Dignitary Protection Team, and many more.
