The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is seeking dedicated and responsible individuals to join our team as Jail Deputies. This role is crucial for maintaining the safety, security, and order within the county jail. The ideal candidate will possess a strong sense of duty, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to upholding the law with Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Accountability.

Responsibilities:
All jail deputies are sworn and maintain protective status with paid Wisconsin Retirement System Contributions. Employment begins in the jail division where your main responsibility will be maintaining security of the jail and the inmate population housed within. Jail deputies also are responsible to enforce rules and regulations to maintain order, conduct routine checks and inspections of the jail, oversee the intake and release of inmates, document and report incidents and inmate behavior, and to collaborate with law enforcement and the courts as necessary. Jail deputies also can elect to become qualified as a Weapons Officer to accept additional duties related to transports and hospital duty. Jail deputies also have numerous opportunities to become members of the many specialty units of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office within the Jail and Patrol Divisions.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
Applicants with prior jail/correctional experience may be compensated with pay and time off based upon prior jail/correctional experience and certifications already obtained.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20
