Position Responsibilities

CSOs are trained to provide security at residence halls and to patrol the campus during the evening and night hours with the assistance of a partner. While on patrol, CSOs perform a variety of duties including: assisting officers or staff members when requested; responding and assisting at fire and medical calls; enforcing parking regulations; and reporting any activity that is suspicious or illegal. In addition, CSOs report any maintenance, security, or safety problems they may find during their shift. During patrol shifts, CSOs check all residence halls and university buildings to ensure that they are secure. CSOs perform the function of Night Security in the residence halls; checking IDs in order for people to gain access to the halls, and as security for athletic events and other special events. UWO GO (the campus safe-ride program) is also staffed and managed by CSOs. CSOs are supplied with uniforms, a duty belt, and other equipment necessary to effectively perform their job. They are given a variety of training, such as: defense tactics, to include use of a baton and chemical agents; conflict resolution; CPR; and customer service.

  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position
  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • No felony convictions

Other Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled at the UW-Oshkosh, Fox Valley Technical College, Moraine Park Technical College or other UW System schools (with a minimum of 6 credits).
