Mequon Police Department is accepting applications for lateral transfer and new officer hires, with anticipated police academy attendance spots for Spring 2027 and Fall 2027 sessions. The mission of the Mequon Police Department is to provide a safe environment through professional, efficient, and effective police services. Mequon Police Officers are responsible for providing services to the community and promoting and preserving peace through citizen cooperation.

Responsibilities:
Examples of officer responsibilities include: The protection of life and property; enforcement of city, state and federal laws; traffic crash investigation; traffic law enforcement; first responder medical services; apprehension of criminals; thoroughly investigating municipal and criminal offenses; evidence collection and processing; preparing reports; testifying in court; and other proactive actions and police services as needed. Eligible candidates without the Police Recruit Academy will be sponsored/sent upon being hired and earn their starting salary during the academy training (in addition to being provided with a department vehicle for class).
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
Lateral transfers are eligible to start at a higher pay rate, commensurate with their years of full-time police service (up to maximum salary). Approved contract for 01/01/2027 is $74,822.20 to $100,306.74. Pay scale is on a 5-year step process.

- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition

- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
