The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is seeking a dedicated and experienced law enforcement professional to serve as a Detective Sergeant. This leadership role is integral in supervising criminal investigations, ensuring public safety, and upholding the highest standards of law enforcement with Respect, Integrity, Teamwork and Accountability.

Responsibilities:
The purpose of this position is to supervise the activities of detectives within the Criminal Investigation Division and at times also participate in investigations for the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office. The Detective Sergeant will review, evaluate, and assign criminal complaints to detectives. They will prepare cases for prosecution by reviewing the complaints and evidence for accuracy while working with the District Attorney's Office to sign criminal complaints, testify in court and prepare press releases. They will monitor the progress of investigations, conduct internal investigations, conduct interviews, prepare reports and employee evaluations. The Detective Sergeant will also oversee the collection, processing, handling and chain of custody of evidence. Will complete additional duties related to the Criminal Investigation Division.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- Previous experience
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- Supervisory/Management Experience
- U.S. citizen
- Minimum of 5 years experience as a full-time law enforcement officer
- Holds certification as law enforcement officer through Wisconsin LESB
- Prior supervisory and investigative experience preferred
