Position Responsibilities

This is a professional position responsible for performing a variety of law enforcement duties including, but not limited to, the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. The work includes preventing, detecting, and investigating crimes; maintaining law and order; and patrolling and enforcing traffic regulations. Officers work under the direction and general supervision of the Chief of Police and Lieutenant but must exercise considerable judgment, discretion, and initiative in the performance of their duties during a 12-hour shift with a 4-day on/5-day off rotation.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Any sworn law enforcement officer hired to the position of regular full-time patrol officer, at the discretion of the Chief of Police and subject to approval of the PFC, may receive a starting salary based on their prior years of service as a sworn law enforcement officer up to the five (5) year step of the CBA; $78,058.50 per year. Vacation allowance may also be awarded up to the two (2) years of credited service in accordance with the CBA; 96 hours.
