The City of Thorp Police Department is accepting applications for the purpose of fulfilling a current full-time vacancy & for establishing an eligibility list for potential hire of future full-time police officers. City of Thorp full-time police officers currently start at $28.00/hour. Vacation can be negotiated with lateral transfer candidates based on previous years of service. The City of Thorp offers an excellent benefit package, including insurance through Security Health, an employer-funded Health Savings Account ($375/quarter/single plan OR $750/quarter/family plan), dental insurance & Term Life Insurance. Under the current contract, employees contribute 6.9% to the Wisconsin Retirement System as well as to the City’s health insurance premium. The Thorp Police Department will renegotiate a new contract with the City of Thorp in 2025. Responsibilities:
Applicants must meet the following requirements: be a U.S. citizen with a valid WI driver’s license; have an acceptable driver’s record with no felony driving convictions; must be in good physical condition; must be eligible for certification by the Wisconsin Department of Justice-Law Enforcement Standards Board and have a minimum of 60-college credits or an associate degree or bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or related field and have completed a required recruit academy; have obtained a high school diploma; have a criminal history clear of felony convictions and the ability to possess a firearm; no domestic abuse convictions; vision correctable to 20/20; above average written and oral communication skills; the ability to react quickly and effectively in stressful situations; the ability to work nights, weekends and holidays or otherwise as directed by the Chief of Police; knowledge and skills in operating computer systems; the ability to speak clearly and concisely; the ability to multi-task; the training and ability to perform essential job functions of the position and the ability to use all required law enforcement equipment correctly and effectively.
