The West Salem Police Department is accepting applications to fill a current vacancy for Full-Time Police Officer. Applications will be accepted through 5:00pm on December 2, 2024. Responsibilities of this position include the enforcement of laws, maintaining public peace, protecting life and property, and working as a part of the community to address community concerns. The West Salem Police Department serves a growing community of approximately 5,500 residents within the LaCrosse/Onalaska metropolitan area. +

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

The Village may start an experienced Police Officer at the step in the wage schedule commensurate with the employee’s determined years of relevant full-time law enforcement service deemed to be of benefit. 2025 Step in Wage Schedule: No Prior Experience = $26.27hr 2-3 Years Experience = $29.42hr 3-4 Years Experience = $32.31hr 5 + Years Experience = $34.67hr 2025 Vacation Schedule: No Prior Experience = 48 hours PTO 2 years' Experience = 96 hours PTO 6 years' Experience = 144 hours PTO New lateral employees with 6 + years of prior experience deemed of benefit will be vested, upon completion of their first year, at no more than 6 years of service with the Village in regard to pay and paid time off. Seniority will start on the first day of employment with the Village of West Salem.

  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
