Reason for Announcement:
Responsibilities:
• Assists in planning, organizing and coordinating all activities of the department
• Interprets new laws, ordinances, rules and regulations and advises personnel on policies and procedures
• Investigates complaints against employees and employee grievances
• Prepares, approves and maintains records for budgeting and monitoring expenditures
• Directs investigations and internal operations
• Manages all Special Teams
• Develops work schedules; authorizes leave, vacation, and overtime; conducts employee performance evaluations; participates in disciplinary matters and recruitment procedures as necessary
• Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws throughout the department
• Prepares and makes recommendations to the Sheriff, County Board and the Law Enforcement Committee
• Reviews the records and reports of subordinate officers, and when appropriate forwards reports of investigations to the District Attorney for prosecution or to reporting officer or detective for further investigation
• Acts as lead investigator in cases involving unusual importance, high profile publicity or exceptional sensitivity
• Testifies on behalf of the department with respect to practices and procedures
• Makes speeches and presentations and does other public relations work for the department
• Acts as officer in charge of physical evidence and security of evidence room
• Acts as Highway Safety Coordinator
• Answers complaints and takes necessary corrective actions
• Develops grant proposals and monitors all grant funds allotted
• Completes reports and required documentation per department policy in a timely manner
• Maintains up-to-date job knowledge, certifications, licenses and registrations. Keeps up to date on laws, rules, and regulations. Recommends policy/procedure changes to supervisor
• Acts as Sheriff in his or her absence

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- Previous experience
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- Supervisory/Management Experience
- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20
- Minimum Age:
Minimum Age-18
- Certification by Wisconsin Department of Justice as law enforcement officer
- Minimum of 60 college credits or degree in criminal justice or related field
- Minimum of ten (10) years’ experience as a law enforcement officer required in addition to five (5) years’ supervisory experience, preferably in law enforcement
- Must possess and maintain valid Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer Certification
- Must qualify and maintain qualification in department required firearms
