Position Responsibilities

As a 911 Dispatcher, no two shifts are exactly the same. You’ll be at the center of public safety—helping people during emergencies, supporting first responders in the field, and making critical decisions when every second counts. What You’ll Do - Answer the call when it matters most. Receive 911 and non-emergency calls and quickly determine what type of assistance is needed. - Be the calm in someone’s chaos. Gather critical information, provide reassurance, and give lifesaving instructions while help is on the way. - Dispatch police, fire, and EMS. Coordinate the right resources and keep responders updated as situations develop. - Be the lifeline for first responders. Monitor radio traffic, track responder locations, relay critical information, and help keep personnel safe in the field. - Think fast and multitask. Manage phones, radios, computer systems, alerts, and multiple incidents—sometimes all at once. - Make decisions that matter. Prioritize calls and respond quickly to changing situations using training, sound judgment, and established procedures. - Use technology to help solve problems. Work with computer-aided dispatch, mapping, emergency communications, databases, and other public-safety technology. - Work as part of a team. Communicate closely with law enforcement, fire departments, EMS, neighboring agencies, and fellow dispatchers. - Help your community every shift. Whether it’s a major emergency, a missing person, severe weather, a traffic crash, or someone simply needing help, you’ll play an important role in getting resources where they need to go. - Stay ready for the unexpected. Emergencies don’t follow a script, and dispatchers must be adaptable, resourceful, and prepared to respond to whatever comes next. More Than Answering Phones 911 Dispatchers are often the first first responders involved in an emergency. You may never meet the person you helped or the responder you kept safe—but your voice, decisions, and actions can make a lasting difference. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment, enjoy helping others, work well under pressure, and want a career where your work truly matters, we want to hear from you.
