Position Responsibilities

The patrol officer is a non-supervisory, entry level position of the Oshkosh Police Department. Their duties are to promote public safety and to enhance the quality of life in our community through innovative policing and community partnerships. The patrol officer must be able to perform these duties with limited immediate supervision while working as a part of a team with other employees and the community. The patrol officer is required to understand and be able to apply department policies, procedures, and job methods relating to work assignments. The patrol officer must have a working knowledge of federal laws, state statutes and local ordinances. Physical fitness is required to perform the duties of this position.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Certified full-time law enforcement officers with verified prior full-time service within the past 12 months are eligible for an expedited hire process and lateral entry benefits. Lateral hires shall at time of hire 1) be placed at the pay step reflecting their credited years of prior certified experience; 2) shall be advanced 96 hours of sick leave; and 3) shall be placed at the vacation accrual level reflecting their credited years of prior certified experience.

  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification

  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
