Reason for Announcement:
Responsibilities:
1. Respond to routine and emergency calls for service and take necessary action consistent with applicable laws, department policy, procedures, and training. 2. Exercise the lawful use of arrest, force, search, and seizure powers in the investigation and enforcement of criminal, non-criminal, ordinance, and traffic violations. 3. Make independent observations to identify existing or potential problems or conditions requiring attention, and initiate appropriate precautionary, preventative, or corrective measures. 4. Conduct thorough and accurate investigations and/or follow-up on all assigned or initiated activity. 5. Document occurrences and activities through the preparation of thorough and accurate reports. 6. Offer credible testimony at trials or hearings regarding the specifics of an incident, arrests made, evidence gathered, or other investigation completed. 7. Follow and obey lawful orders as well as department rules, policies, procedures and directives 8. Promote professional relationships within the Department, Village government, other governmental agencies, and the community in the furtherance of the department’s mission, goals, and objectives. 9. Perform other duties as assigned.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
Lateral Transfer Benefits: An applicant with less than three (3) years of certified law enforcement experience in a similar position shall start at Step 2 of the applicable wage scale. Applicants with more than three (3) years of certified law enforcement experience in a similar position shall start at Step 4 of the applicable wage scale. Lateral hires shall receive a one-time compensation bonus of $6,000 payable upon completion of the probationary period but shall repay the full amount if the officer does not complete at least three (3) years of employment with the Department. An applicant with certified law enforcement experience will be credited for those years of service for purposes of vacation. After completion of the requisite initial training period, officers will be permitted to use a prorated portion of vacation time based on their credited years of experience. Beginning on the January 1 immediately following their date of hire, officers will be entitled to vacation leave based on their credited years of service.
