Investigative Lieutenant

The Investigative Lieutenant is expected to actively support and ensure compliance with the mission, policies, procedures, programs, objectives, philosophies, and vision of the Prairie du Chien Police Department. They should direct the day-to-day department investigative activities of subordinates and provide for the direct supervision and evaluation of subordinates involved in active investigations. They will direct and assign department investigations. This includes the review, and evaluation of daily reports, daily logs and the assignment of appropriate and applicable follow up by officers, detective(s) or by Lieutenants. The Investigative Lieutenant keeps the Chief informed on assigned follow up and on the status of pending investigations. The Investigative Lieutenant ensures that all reports are forwarded in a timely manner to their proper destination. They will follow up on all criminal arrests and cases generated by investigations or patrol including but not limited to insurance of all documented evidence, property and audio/visual recordings are properly documented and secured in support of said criminal case. They are expected to follow up, or direct others to follow up, on all drug related arrests and cases generated by investigations or patrol including but not limited to interviews of suspects and development of cooperative informants to advance investigations to the most complete extent possible. They are responsible for the supervision, direction, evaluation, and coordination of all sworn and non-sworn personnel of the Prairie du Chien Police Department. They issue instructions, directions, directives, memorandums, orders, etc., to coordinate the activities of subordinates to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of service. Most importantly, the position is allowed and encouraged to have fun every day and is expected to foster a fun working environment for their direct reports. Workload is broken up by 40% conducting drug investigations. 30% call taking in support of patrol. 20% supervision of subordinates and 10% of administrative tasks as assigned by the Chief of Police. Primary assignment is 7:00pm - 3:00am or as directed by the Chief of Police.
