Responsibilities:
The city of Columbus has 5,600 residents and is growing. We are in Columbia County, 25 minutes from Madison and 10 from Beaver Dam. We are in the process of planning a new Public Safety Building. Officers are assigned a 1:1 squad car upon hire. Uniformed patrol officer position. Responsibilities include responding to calls for service, proactive patrol, investigations, traffic enforcement, reports, evidence collection/processing, testifying in court, community engagement, and other duties associated with a municipal law enforcement officer.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
Those with experience may be elevated on the starting wage and vacation schedule, at the discretion of the Chief of Police.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- Vision correctable to 20/20
- Minimum Age:

- Must have completed a Wisconsin police academy.
- If currently employed by a law enforcement agency must be in good standing.
