Responsibilities:
Sworn Law Enforcement position which involves the protection of life and property, prevention of crime, reducing the fear of crime, enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes, traffic accidents and other police related matters, apprehension of those who violate laws, maintain order, and provide assistance and needed services to the public. Tasks Routinely Performed • Patrol an assigned sector of the City on foot or by conveyance assigned. • Enforce traffic laws, issue citations, warnings or other action concerning violations. • Direct traffic. • Investigate traffic accidents and road obstructions • Report conditions of streets, signs, curbs, sidewalks, obstructions of signs, signals or vision. • Take appropriate action on matters affecting public safety. • Employ problem-solving strategies and behaviors. • Provide assistance to meet the needs of the community. • Investigate wanted/ missing persons and property • Investigate crimes and citizen complaints. • Search for and preserve evidence. • Search for and apprehend violators. • Transport persons in custody. • Conduct interviews and interrogations. • Prepare reports. • Prepare cases for prosecutors and present testimony. • Serve warrants and legal documents • Conduct security checks. • Represent the Department at various public functions as assigned. • Assist co-workers in their duties, particularly during absences. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
Lateral transfer based on years of experience, education, and additional skills to determine rate of pay and vacation eligibility with approval of the Chief of Police and the Police and Fire Commission.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
