The Wisconsin State Capitol Police Department is seeking professional, service-driven law enforcement officers to serve as Capitol Police Officers in a unique statewide public safety mission. This position will be based in Madison, WI. Experienced, certified law enforcement officers are encouraged to apply. This role is well-suited for officers who value professionalism, sound judgment, and leadership; who are ready for a change from routine patrol; and who are motivated by meaningful public service in complex, high-visibility environments. Compensation for experienced officers will be commensurate with years of certified law enforcement experience. The Wisconsin State Capitol Police is a statewide law enforcement agency responsible for providing police and security services in support of all three branches of Wisconsin state government — Executive, Legislative, and Judicial. This includes protective services for elected officials, security for the Wisconsin State Capitol and other state facilities, and protection of visiting dignitaries, state employees, and the public. Responsibilities:
The Capitol Police Officer position performs all security and law enforcement functions on the assigned shift at DOA owned and leased facilities. This position provides law enforcement services to the citizens of the State of Wisconsin. This position determines appropriate law enforcement actions to be taken; applying and interpreting the State of Wisconsin and Federal statutes; working with people from diverse backgrounds; recording and preserving evidence, enforcing parking statutes; providing first aid including CPR, and conducting beat patrols.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20
- Minimum Age:
Minimum Age18
- Qualified applicants will currently be certified as a law enforcement officer by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board (LESB), or eligible for certification within 30 days of application, or currently enrolled in a 720-hour Law Enforcement Academy
