Responsibilities:
This sworn position’s duties are to protect, regulate, and serve the citizens of Princeton as they go about their daily activities. The patrol officer must be able to perform these duties without the benefit of immediate supervision. Work involves patrolling, gathering evidence, solving problems, and apprehending violators; responding to criminal, suspicious, traffic and unusual situations as directed. The patrol officer must treat everyone with respect and exhibit a great amount of discretion. The patrol officer shall have a working knowledge of criminal law, city ordinances and department policies when dealing with the public.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
Any sworn law enforcement officer hired to the rank of patrol officer under the lateral hire program will immediately receive a vacation and holiday allowance and be placed on the highest step of the hourly wage scale with a minimum of one-year full time employment.

- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20
Education Requirements:
• High School diploma
• Law Enforcement Standards Board Certified or possesses an equivalent out of state certification at time of hire required

• Sponsored by Princeton Department and shall enroll in the next available Law Enforcement Standards Board class required.
• Must possess 60 (sixty) college credits within 5 (five) years of hire from an accredited college as defined by the U.S. Department of Education unless employed in Law Enforcement prior to 1993.
