The City of Hayward Police Department is seeking certified candidates to join our team as a Patrol Officer. The City of Hayward Police Department strives to protect and serve our community by working with community members to address problems. The position entails protecting life and property, general patrol, criminal law and traffic law enforcement, enforcement of ordinances, and maintaining public peace.

  • The base wage rates have been set for the following three years: January 1st, 2026 -$33.15/hour, January 1st, 2027 $34.81/hr, and January 1st, 2028 $36.55/hr.
  • Shift differential is a $0.50 increase/hr (between 6pm-6am)
  • Longevity is a quarter ($0.25) increase at your one year anniversary, another quarter ($0.25) at your 3rd year anniversary, and another quarter ($0.25) at your 5th year anniversary.

  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position
  • Ability to possess a firearm
  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
