Responsibilities:
The Village of Cross Plains is accepting applications to fill vacancies and create an eligibility list for the positions of Full-time and Part-time Police Officer. This is an entry-level sworn police position responsible for protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Work involves patrolling assigned areas, responding to criminal, suspicious, traffic and unusual situations as directed; investigating activities, gathering evidence, securing areas; protecting victims, the public and property; apprehending violators, completing appropriate paperwork and other related duties as required. Police Officers are also required to perform first responder duties and provide basic emergency medical service. Duties are performed under general supervision of the Sergeant of Police.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
The Chief of Police has the discretion to start an experienced certified police officer, newly hired to the Department, at any step on the wage scale from start through 5 years, commensurate with the officer’s prior experience. Lateral transfers of certified police officers with less than five years’ experience will be credited 96 hours (1 year) of sick time upon hire. Lateral transfers of certified police officers with five years or more experience will be credited 192 hours (2 years) of sick time.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
