Seeking lateral entry (sworn experience) at higher wage and time off and those who have been thru an academy. Officers will have their own squad assigned to them in the very near future and after probation be able to take them home. We are also in the design phase a brand new public safety building.

Responsibilities:
The City of Columbus, population 5,500 is in Columbia County, close to Madison, Beaver Dam and Sun Prairie. Duties include uniformed patrol officer responsibilities. Responding to calls for service, investigations, traffic enforcement, and all other duties associated with a police officer position.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
Those will full time sworn experience can start at a higher wage and additional time off at the discretion of the Chief of Police. Applications will be reviewed when received and the right candidate can be hired prior to deadline in the posting during a very abridged process.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20

- Must be currently certified as a law enforcement officer in the State of Wisconsin and in good standing with current agency.
- If currently employed by a law enforcement agency must be in good standing.
- Also accepting applicants who have been through a WI police academy.
