Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

Enforce state, county and federal civil and criminal laws and provide for the public protection. Bayfield County offers a lateral transfer program for applicants with law enforcement experience. Applicants with certified law enforcement experience may be eligible for higher wage and benefit allocations upon hire. Examples of Duties: a. Investigate reported crimes. b. Make criminal arrests and process evidence. c. Testify in court. d. Respond to serious incidents that are in progress. e. Enforce traffic laws and investigate traffic accidents. f. Serve civil process such as restraining orders, subpoenas, evictions, executions against property etc. g. Transport arrestees and inmates to jail or prison. h. Initiate emergency detention proceedings when persons meet legally established criteria.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Credit for full-time years of service shall apply to wage and vacation dependent upon amount of service credited.

  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position
  • Ability to possess a firearm
  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen
