Position Responsibilities

McFarland is a growing community of approximately 9,500 residents. Located just south of Madison, McFarland has an exceptional school district, plenty of recreational activities and parks, and a community that supports public safety. With a focus on community policing, your work will put you on the front line of keeping the community safe by being proactive in your approach to policing. You will be responsible for general patrol duties, investigating criminal and ordinance violations, traffic enforcement, evidence collection and processing, and community engagement through involvement in our outreach programs. Training is a priority for the Department with many officers attending over 100 hours of training per year.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Lateral transfer candidates, with at least one year of full-time law enforcement experience, will be considered. Initial compensation and vacation may be at a higher step than the Start Rate. The Village may also consider allowing up to 400 hours of sick time to be transferred from the previous employer.

  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • Previous experience
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations

60 college credits / Associate's degree
Additional Education Information
The Village may waive the 36-month continuous service requirement regarding eligibility for the education incentive program for qualified candidates with at least 36-months of continuous service with their previous agency.
