Position Responsibilities

A Deputy Sheriff holding the rank of "Deputy" is an entry level sworn law enforcement position within the Sheriff's Office performing duties as assigned to Deputy Sheriffs' holding the rank of Deputy, in the general areas of, but not limited to: Patrol Deputy, Water Patrol Deputy, Court/Conveyance Deputy Participate in special units such as: Strategic Patrol Unit, Warrants Unit, K9 Handler, Courthouse Security, Domestic Violence Specialist, Evidence Technician, Evidence Custodian, Training Officer, SWAT Team, Dive Team, Crisis Negotiations Team. Respond to citizen's requests for assistance. Investigate criminal activity and civil complaints. Take into custody and provide services to individuals. Guard and care for prisoners. Restrain aggressive persons to include applying handcuffs and other restraints without assistance from others. Engage in physical altercations with or without equipment or weapons and have sufficient skills/training to overcome and subdue suspects. Observe for improper activities. Enforce traffic laws, state statutes and county ordinances. Write reports, citations, documentation and diagrams. Testify in court. Operate vehicles and other equipment including weapons during hours of work. Work overtime hours during situations deemed by the Sheriff as an emergency. Patrol Deputy Perform law enforcement services within Racine County, including motor vehicle traffic enforcement and accident investigation. Respond to calls assigned and take appropriate action. Locate and serve warrants and commitments, serve related civil process, and prepare appropriate documentation. Transport prisoners. Perform emergency first aid functions at accident scenes or other incidents. Perform patrol services in such a manner so as to attempt to deter criminal activity and to be aware of activities in patrol areas. Perform special assignments such as COPS, conduct programs as directed by the Sheriff to include speaking engagements on a variety of topics. Prepare all necessary reports and documentation related to duties. Water Patrol Deputy Provide law enforcement services in the Racine Harbor, Lake Michigan and the other waterways in Racine County. Conduct search and rescue operations upon the waters of Racine County. Perform maintenance and cleaning operations to boats and equipment used by the Water Patrol operations. Provide public relations programs and assist the public concerning boating safety and boat operations. Prepare all necessary reports and documentation. Court/Conveyance Deputy Provide security to court operations in Racine County. Transport and maintain control of prisoners and others in custody of the courts or Sheriff's Office to other facilities or back, in a safe, secure manner. Prepare and review appropriate and necessary reports and documentation concerning arrests, citation paperwork, dispositions and other administrative activities concerning Sheriff's Office arrests or other agencies arrests, if so directed.
