Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

New employees are hired as fully sworn Deputy Sheriff with full arrest powers, beginning your career in the Jail Division and transfer to Patrol based on seniority. You will perform all law enforcement officer's duties including enforcing all Federal, State and County laws and ordinances. Opportunities exist for specialty positions after completion of probationary period: SWAT, Drone Operator, Crisis Negotiator, Field Training Officer, K9, Project Lifesaver, Recreational Patrol (ATV, Boat, Snowmobile), SRO, Specialty Contract Positions, and certified instructors (firearms, DAAT, taser, etc.).

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

A lateral transfer is offered for candidates that are certified with full-time sworn law enforcement experience. Juneau County may recognize a candidate's past law enforcement experience for starting at a higher compensation rate and initial vacation schedule placement.

  • Deputies work 12 hour shifts with every other weekend off (2-2-3 schedule)..
  • Initial uniforms are provided by the Sheriff's Office with an allowance of $650/yr.

  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification

  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
