There is currently a vacancy in the Rhinelander Police Department for the position of Police Captain. The Police Captain is “Second in Command” of the Rhinelander Police Department and answers directly to the Chief of Police. By departmental policy, a Police Captain is a dayshift, “Uniformed, working Captain”.

Responsibilities:
Principal duties include but are not limited to: shall actively support and ensure compliance with the mission, policies, procedures, programs, objectives, philosophies, and vision of the department; promote teamwork and a “continuous improvement” initiative; shall direct the day to day department patrol and/or investigative activities of subordinates; issue instructions, directions, directives, memorandums, orders, etc. to coordinate the activities of subordinates to ensure efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of service; shall respond to calls for service from the community in the absence of a shift police officer; maintain records on training and firearms qualification; case management, payroll, and assist the Chief of Police with internal investigations and citizen complaints against departmental personnel.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- Previous experience
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- Supervisory/Management Experience
- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20
- Must have at least 6 years law enforcement experience and at least 3 years of law enforcement supervisory experience.
