- No Experience - For those without law enforcement experience.
- Lateral - for those who are already working in law enforcement.
Laterals/Accelerated Academy - The Madison Police Department is currently recruiting for an “accelerated” academy exclusively for veteran police officers (i.e., officers with three or more years of continuous and full-time law enforcement experience in patrol).
As a veteran police officer you would attend our accelerated Academy, (taught in-house by MPD Training Staff, non-residential, Monday-Friday, 8a-4p, with full pay and benefits provided) following the academy you would participate in a condensed field training program before moving seamlessly to a position in Patrol Services.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- No felony convictions
- U.S. citizen

Education Requirements:
• Associate's Degree: 9% ($82,591)
• Bachelor Degree: 18% ($89,411)
• Master Degree: 22% ($92,411)
• This base pay does not include 15 minutes of daily briefing time, shift differential, or other routine overtime.
