Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

A Police Officer for the Village of Fontana is responsible for protecting life and property, maintaining public safety, enforcing laws and ordinances, and providing a professional service to the community. This consists of the following responsibilities:

-Patrol the Village and maintain a visible presence to promote public safety and deter crime.

-Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls for service.

-Enforce state laws, traffic laws, and Village ordinances.

-Investigate crimes, traffic crashes, disturbances, suspicious activity, and other incidents.

-Prepare accurate and timely police reports, citations, and other required documentation.

-Work cooperatively with other officers, Village departments, and outside law-enforcement and emergency-service agencies.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

The Village of Fontana's lateral transfer agreement provides eligible candidates with an hourly rate of pay and vacation benefits consistent with the rates and amounts established by the current union contract These amounts are based on the individual's prior years of law-enforcement service.

  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen

  • Applicant must have an associate's degree or a minimum of 60 college credits.
