Applicants must meet the following requirements: be currently certifiable as an officer through the Wisconsin Department of Justice – Law Enforcement Standards Board; be a U.S. citizen with a valid WI driver’s license; have an acceptable driver’s record with no felony driving convictions; must be in good physical condition; must have a minimum of 60-college credits or an associate degree or bachelors degree in Criminal Justice or related field and have completed a required recruit academy; have obtained a high school diploma; have a criminal history clear of felony convictions and the ability to possess a firearm; no domestic abuse convictions; vision correctable to 20/20; above average written and oral communication skills; the ability to react quickly and effectively in stressful situations; the willingness to work nights, weekends and holidays or otherwise as directed by the Chief of Police; knowledge and skills in operating computer systems; the ability to speak clearly and concisely; the ability to multi-task; the training and ability to perform essential job functions of the position and the ability to use all required law enforcement equipment correctly and effectively.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Vacation and personal time benefits can be negotiated with the City of Thorp Common Council upon receiving a conditional offer of employment.

Additional Education Information
Selected applicants may need to pass a written exam, oral interview, psychological profile, medical and/or physical fitness tests, vision exam, drug screening and background investigation prior to a conditional offer of employment. Initial uniforms are provided and paid for by the City of Thorp for full-time officers as well as an annual uniform allowance of $800.00/year. Residency in or near the City of Thorp is encouraged but is not required. Applicants with prior work-related experience are encouraged to apply.
