Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of State Patrol Troopers and Inspectors is the enforcement of state traffic and criminal laws, regulation of traffic, prevention of highway crashes, and criminal interdiction. This includes providing assistance to motorists and the public and inspecting trucks, school buses and ambulances. They also assist local, other state, and federal law enforcement agencies with civil disturbances, natural disasters, special details, and routine backup.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
The 74th Recruit Class is a lateral recruit class designed for candidates who are certified law enforcement officers. Upon hire, all recruits will complete a total of 10 weeks of Academy training and a total of 4 weeks of field training prior to graduation. Candidates will attend the first 6 weeks of training at the State Patrol Academy, then will return to their field assignments for field training for 2 weeks, alternating between Academy and field training every 2 weeks until graduation. Additional field training will be provided after graduation.
