Position Responsibilities

Personnel in this assignment are responsible for general patrol, traffic enforcement, criminal investigations, special event assignments, community engagement, and law enforcement activities in the interest of maintaining law and order. The SHPD works with a focus on suppressing crime, and protecting life and property

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

Lateral transfer refers to an applicant who is currently employed full-time at a municipal, county, or state police agency and has completed their probationary period. Successful lateral candidates will start at an accelerated pay scale compared to entry level candidates. Vacation time will also be adjusted according to police experience. Prior years of sworn law enforcement experience will place you in the correlating pay step: Patrol Officer 07/01/2024 Start 70,777.19 After 1 year 74,290.56 After 2 years 79,461.09 After 3 years 84,631.61 After 4 years 89,801.69 Vacation Allowance: Lateral transfers will receive recognition equal to the number of full years of service as a full-time sworn law enforcement officer, as it relates to the collective bargaining agreement. Sick Leave: Lateral transfers will receive an advance of 41.5 hours of sick leave upon hiring.
