Responsibilities:

Position Responsibilities

The primary responsibility of State Patrol Troopers and Inspectors is the enforcement of state traffic and criminal laws, regulation of traffic, prevention of highway crashes, and criminal interdiction. This includes providing assistance to motorists and the public and inspecting trucks, school buses and ambulances. They also assist local, other state, and federal law enforcement agencies with civil disturbances, natural disasters, special details, and routine backup.

Lateral Transfer Program Details:

The 72nd Recruit Class (Lateral) is designed for candidates who are certified law enforcement officers and employed by a law enforcement agency. Lateral Class candidates will complete 18 weeks of training. Candidates will attend the first 4 weeks of training at the State Patrol Academy, then will return to their field assignments for field training, alternating every 2 weeks between the State Patrol Academy and Field for training until graduation. Assignment (location and classification as a Trooper or Inspector) for the Lateral Class will be identified in the final offer to those selected for the Lateral Class. Candidates will be required to meet the residency requirement (25 miles to the sector assignment) by August 24th, 2025 (after the first 4 weeks of employment).
