Position Responsibilities

Police Officers for the City of Cumberland are responsible for the protection of life and property, crime prevention and detection, enforcement of laws, investigation of crimes, investigation of traffic accidents and traffic control, apprehension of those who violate laws, maintenance of order in the community as well as providing general assistance and services to the public. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: • Patrol the City of Cumberland by vehicle, foot, or other method. • Enforces state statutes, municipal ordinances, traffic laws and takes appropriate enforcement action. • Investigates traffic accidents and makes recommendations on how to improve traffic patterns and movement. • Responds to calls for service. • Identifies, collects, and preserves potential evidence. • Conducts thorough initial and follow up investigations as assigned. • Takes immediate and appropriate action on matters affecting public safety. • Performs security checks of public and private property within the City limits. • Prepares reports using the department’s records management system in conformity with the department standard. • Consults with prosecuting attorney and prepares for court cases and testifies in court. • Attends police training as directed by the administration. • Performs all other duties as assigned. • Participates in community service activities. • Interacts with the public, co-workers, and supervisors in a manner based on the guiding principles and the Mission Statement of the Cumberland Police Department.

  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification

  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
