Position Responsibilities

This position supervises and coordinates 24/7 law enforcement dispatch center activities and operations in support of statewide emergency and non-emergency services to Wisconsin State Patrol field personnel. This position has a direct relationship to the efficiency and well-being of all State Patrol personnel by providing their only link with information essential for routine duties, supervisory control and emergency assistance. In addition to the Wisconsin State Patrol, other law enforcement agencies, related services and the general public depend on this position for communications in normal and emergency situations. Law Enforcement Dispatcher Supervisors direct the 24-hour operation of the Northeast Region’s Law Enforcement Dispatchers. This position assists with the hiring, training and scheduling of law enforcement dispatchers, acts as a liaison and technical expert between the Communications Unit and various public agencies, and assists with development and implementation of policies and procedures. As the shift supervisor, these positions direct, coordinate and oversee daily communications activities of dispatchers and may coordinate major incidents or assist with call handling. A minimally qualified applicant has experience providing public safety communications/ dispatch in emergency situations and experience leading or supervising employees as a team lead or in a formal supervisory role. In addition to the above, a well-qualified applicant may have the following: Training or experience researching or analyzing issues and identifying/ recommending solutions. Experience in a formal supervisory role directing work and activities of staff. Experience with MACH CAD or a similar type of dispatching CAD system. Experience communicating geographic features and landmarks of the State of Wisconsin is preferred.
