Responsibilities:
A Police officer performs a wide variety of duties connected with general police work including investigation, general enforcement of laws and ordinances in the City of Superior and providing other various types of assistance to include advancing the mission of the Superior Police Department. The entry level Police Officer must successfully complete a 18 week recruit academy (if not Wisconsin certified) and 14 weeks of on-the-job-field training.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
A Lateral Transfer Police Officer must have one year of full-time law enforcement experience and be eligible to become a Certified Wisconsin Law Enforcement Officer prior to hire. Upon hire, a Lateral Transfer Police Officer will be credited with their years of full-time law enforcement for the purposes of wage placement, vacation accrual, and minimum experience for Detective application. The Lateral Transfer Police Officer must successfully complete 14 weeks of on-the-job field training, in addition to passing a 12 month probationary period.

- Vacation/Sick Leave: Will accumulate from first day of employment to become available after successful completion of your 12-month probationary period. 40 hours of vacation may be carried over into a subsequent calendar year.
- Compensatory Time: Compensatory time (in lieu of overtime) can be accrued to a total maximum of 120 hours each calendar year. Unused comp time is paid out the first payday in December each year.
- Floating Holidays: 36 hours/year. Floating holidays will carry over in the first year, but must be used in the subsequent calendar year or they will be lost.
- Personal Day: 12 hours available after completion of probationary period. Personal day hours must be used in the year received or they will be lost.
- Longevity pay when eligible as follows: After ten (10) years of service, employees will receive an adidtional 1.5% of their base salary; After fifteen (15) years of service, employees will receive an additional 2% of their base salary; After twenty (20)
