The Village of Whitefish Bay is seeking a experienced, energetic leader with proven success in police management, excellent communication skills and a focus on continuous improvement. Candidates should be familiar with progressive policing principles and have a demonstrated record of success in developing effective relationships at all levels of the organization. The Whitefish Bay Police Department has a strong commitment of providing quality law enforcement services by focusing on partnerships throughout the community. The Police Chief is appointed by the Police Commission and is accountable for his or her actions and performance to the Village Manager and Village Board. The Chief of Police shall have command of the Police Department under the direction of the Village Manager and Village Board. The Chief of Police is the Chief Administrative Command Officer of the Police Department, and is the final departmental authority in all matters of policy, operation, and discipline. The Chief shall have exclusive control of assignments, scheduling, and transfer of all members of the department. This position includes the requirements for the position of Police Officer and additional duties as Chief of Police.

Qualifications
  • Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to perform essential functions of this position
  • Ability to possess a firearm
  • Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
  • Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Clear and concise speech
  • Driver's license
  • Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
  • Good driving record
  • Good physical condition
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
  • No domestic abuse convictions
  • No felony convictions
  • Previous experience
  • React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
  • Supervisory/Management Experience
  • U.S. citizen
  • Vision correctable to 20/20
Other Qualifications
  • Fifteen years of prior law enforcement experience, with at least five years in a management position preferred.

Master’s degree from an accredited college or university preferred; bachelor’s degree required.
