The City of Nekoosa is seeking to fill a full-time police officer position with a primary function of filling open patrol shifts. Nekoosa Police Department is well supported by the community and city council. Officers perform at a high level with priorities on character, professionalism and training. Responsibilities:
Respond to calls for service, assist the public, enforce traffic laws, investigate traffic crashes, conduct investigations, enforce laws and ordinances, prepare reports, forms and other documents as required, testify in criminal and municipal court proceedings.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
At the City’s sole discretion, the lateral entry officer may be eligible for a probationary pay exemption with vacation and sick leave accrual commensurate up to the officer’s prior full-time experience not to exceed the current vacation and sick leave schedule. Lateral entry officers shall be subject to the probationary period and seniority provisions.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Eligibility for Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board Certification
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20
