Reason for Announcement:
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include enforcing village ordinances, state laws and patrolling the village. Officers work with all village departments and the community by enforcing traffic laws, investigating traffic accidents, criminal incidents, and general complaints. Officers shall always be guided in their actions by written department rules, regulations, policies and procedures and will be required to use discretion when necessary. Must be able to communicate well, resolve conflicts, testify in court, and complete official reports.
Lateral Transfer Program Details:
A newly hired Officer with at least three (3) years of full-time experience as a certified law enforcement officer, in the forty-eight (48) months prior to hire, will qualify for a lateral transfer to the Hartland Police Department with the following conditions. 1. The Officer shall be granted up to eleven (11) days of vacation upon hire, which will be prorated based on the Officer’s start date during the calendar year. The Officer will accrue vacation based on the number of consecutive years of full-time certified law enforcement officer employment in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. The Officer will be allowed to use vacation time immediately upon the start of employment, provided there is availability on the schedule and the Officer is not on field training. 2. The Officer shall be granted forty (40) hours of sick leave upon hire. Thereafter, additional sick leave will be earned in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. 3. An Officer who receives an accelerated vacation benefit and terminates employment prior to completing six (6) months of employment will not be eligible for a vacation payout. 4. The Officer’s rate of pay will be based on the number of consecutive years of full-time certified law enforcement employment in accordance with the provisions of the collective bargaining agreement. 5. The Officer’s seniority date will be based on his/her hire date with the Hartland Police Department.
