The Sauk County Sheriff's Office is accepting applications for current openings for the position of Patrol Deputy. Applicants must be WI LESB certifiable/certified or qualify for out of state or military law enforcement reciprocity. Sauk County offers diverse patrol areas which include the more populated eastern part of the county (Lake Delton/Wisconsin Dells areas, Baraboo, and Sauk Prairie areas) and the more rural western part of the county (La Valle and Spring Green). The Sheriff's Office offers deputies the opportunity to serve on special teams, as instructors, training officers, and other career development pathways. Additional Information on Salary & Shift Schedules: Salary is $27.04 (hiring) to $33.13 (top pay - 8 years of service). Candidates with prior law enforcement experience may start above hiring rate depending on prior years of service (lateral transfer for salary). • Patrol deputies work a 2 on - 2 off, 3 on - 2 off, 2 on - 3 off rotating schedule working 12-hour shifts. this results in a 3-day weekend off (Friday - Sunday) every other week.

Responsibilities:
The purpose of the Deputy Sheriff- Patrol is the prevention and detection of crime, enforcement of state laws and local ordinances, to investigate criminal activity, serve or execute writs, precepts, and orders issued by lawful authority for the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office. Essential Duties include- Perform scheduled patrol of assigned area by monitoring traffic, issuing traffic citations/warnings, evaluating hazards and reporting incidents to appropriate agency and personnel. Review daily briefing information, and brief the oncoming shift Patrol Deputies on activities. Respond to traffic collisions, rollovers, and reported hazards, clear road hazards, gather information from participants and witnesses at scene regarding incidents, and assists emergency medical and rescue personnel with injured persons and victim extrication. Respond to citizen complaints by evaluating situations and gathering information from participants and witnesses, then may detain and/or arrest suspects/participants and transport them to the appropriate agency. Prepare incident and accident reports. Conduct initial criminal and traffic investigations, and alter patrol route to provide follow-up investigation of criminal activity in assigned area. Serve warrants, summons, court orders, and other civil process documents to County citizens.
