Position Responsibilities

Major Duties and Responsibilities: Specific duties include but are not limited to: • During the annual State Fair, reports to the assigned supervisor or in his or her absence, the Inspector of Police. • Being familiar with criminal law and procedures. • Follow proper procedures for locating, collecting and preservation of evidence for analysis and prosecution. • Investigate thoroughly all assigned casework. • Maintain detailed records of all investigations. • Promptly submit complete and accurate reports. • Assist patrol officers in criminal investigations. • Interview suspects, witnesses or victims. • Prepare and present cases for prosecution. • Testify in court. • Maintain functional control of a crime scene. • Conduct background investigations on Police candidates • Conduct compliance checks for alcohol and edged weapons during events. • Participate in dignitary protection unit as assigned. • Process paperwork necessary for court and/or District Attorney • Download electronic recording equipment • Maintain awareness of local crime trends. • Communicate and collaborate with outside agencies. • Maintain a standard police uniform for assisting patrol officers at the annual State Fair and/or working Events and duty officer assignments. • Conduct background investigations on potential police and civilian candidates. • Respond to MAIT call-ups involving police related critical incidents. Position Requirements: • A minimum of two completed years of qualifying full-time investigative experience on another police department or five or more years of experience working for the WI. State Fair Police in a sworn capacity with the ability to attend specialized training necessary for the performance of this position. • The ability and desire to work at the Department year-round. • The ability to work during the annual Wisconsin State Fair. • Must be a US citizen and Wisconsin resident at time of appointment. Required Knowledge and Abilities: • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing. • Substantial knowledge of criminal investigative procedures. • Substantial knowledge of proper evidence collection and preservation. • Substantial knowledge of criminal law and procedure. • Substantial knowledge and experience in the concepts of interview and interrogation. • Ability to follow a logical progression of information leading to the identification of a suspect. • Ability to write a detailed and accurate report describing complex events in a logical sequential manner. • Ability to testify in court in an accurate, clear, concise, and convincing manner. • The above stated knowledge and abilities must be supported by previous full-time law enforcement experience as a detective, investigator, or detective bureau supervisor. • Experience of 10 5 or more years of police service employed by the WI State Fair Police with an exemplary employment record and the desire to obtain required training necessary for the performance of this position will be considered for an officer desiring promotion within the agency.
