Dispatcher/Telecommunicator

• Has excellent listening skills • Has the ability to multitask • Understands basic police responses to an emergency scene • Understands department rules and regulations • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing • Ability to remain calm and reassuring while under extreme pressure • Answers the phone and talks with callers in order to determine the nature of an emergency • Decides on a plan of action and summons officers to react • Coordinates the efforts of officers while enroute to the scene • Records/documents information relating to an incident for possible use of later investigations • Advises individuals of certain actions to take while waiting for help to arrive • Contacts other agencies if additional assistance is needed by order of supervisory staff • Communicates with officers on scene in order to ensure that a situation or incident is fully resolved • Tracks the location of officers responding to a call/incident • Answers non-emergency call for assistance • Receives requests for information regarding vehicle registration, driving records and warrants, provides pertinent data as a TIME system operator, meeting certification requirements. • Operates a variety of communications equipment, including radio consoles, telephones and computer systems • Monitors and operates multiple police radio frequencies
