Position Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Mayor and City Council, the Police Chief is responsible for the protection of lives and property in the City of Dodgeville through the supervision of all police department functions. This position holds the highest-level management position within the Police Department and is ultimately responsible for the complete control, operation, and representation of the City's police department and its employees. The Chief is responsible for managing the physical facilities and equipment; supervising departmental activities and personnel; formulating and enforcing department rules of conduct and policies; coordinating departmental activities with outside agencies; and preparing and justifying departmental budgets.

60 college credits / Associate's degree
Additional Education Information
The preferred candidate must have ten years of experience in the law enforcement field, with five years of progressively responsible managerial and supervisory experience at a senior command rank of Sergeant or above, which includes actual and demonstrated managerial, leadership and supervisory level experiences; preference for a Master’s Degree from an accredited University or College in a field related to criminal justice, or a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University in a field related to criminal justice with advanced police training such as the FBI National Academy, Southern Police Institute, Northwestern University Staff and Command School, Criminal Justice Executive Development Institute or an equivalent program; and demonstrated proficiency in the conceptual knowledge of managerial and administrative principles and procedures as it relates to the overall administration of a law enforcement agency.
