Responsibilities:
The Mellen City Police Department provides law enforcement services to the City of Mellen. As a municipality of Ashland County, the Mellen City Police Department dispatches through the Ashland County Sheriff’s Office. The Chief of Police ensures that all statutes and local ordinances are enforced. The Chief will also be responsible for management of Police Department operations, such as scheduling and delegating duties. All programs and activities of the Police Department shall be under the direction and guidance of the Chief. The Chief also is required to answer and handle calls during his/ her shift. The Police Chief is appointed by the City Mayor and Council and attends monthly Board meetings. In addition, the Chief works collaboratively with all City departments and with the City Council on departmental policy. The ideal candidate must be comfortable with community policing.

Qualifications:
- Ability to handle several tasks simultaneously
- Ability to perform essential functions of this position
- Ability to possess a firearm
- Ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment
- Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Clear and concise speech
- Driver's license
- Good driving record
- Good physical condition
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Knowledge and skills in operating computer systems
- No domestic abuse convictions
- No felony convictions
- Previous experience
- React quickly and effectively to stressful situations
- U.S. citizen
- Vision correctable to 20/20
